Mr T. J. James is an accomplished and well-respected professional with more than 24 years of comprehensive experience in development sector with special reference to rural and grassroots innovation. He is an Anthropologist by training and a well-known expert in rural innovation and has contributed in developing scalable diffusion and participatory technology development models, which were recognized at national and international level. He is the Honorary Fellow /Senior Fellow of Kerala Start-up Mission and the Director of ‘Centre of Rural Innovation and Indigenous Knowledge’, Marian College, Kuttikkanam – a research centre for promoting rural innovation, supported by RUSA for applied research. He has associated with various NGOs (Voluntary Health Association- SHARE project- Chennai, Innoaction-Thrissur and Y New-Dindigul as Advisor) for various activities related to rural innovation, health based innovations, rural technology and indigenous knowledge. He was the former national coordinator of National Innovation Foundation, Government of India. Mr. James was selected for the prestigious Chevening Rolls Royce Scholarship in 2011 for a fellowship programme in Said University, University of Oxford and nominated at national level for Fulbright Humphrey Fellowship in 2017. He is also selected as the ‘Mentor of Change; by Atal Innovation Mission, Niti Ayog Government of India in 2018. He has conceptualized, developed, implemented, monitored and evaluated several grassroots/rural innovation based action projects with the support of various national and international organizations such as UNDP, FAO, DST, NSTEDB, NIF (Government of India) and  USAID. For the exemplary contribution in the field of rural and social innovations, Mr. James was bestowed with several recognitions including two National awards from National Innovation Foundation - Government of India in 2001 and 2002.

He is an experienced auditor for national and international sustainable food standards besides having a strong command on Social audits and fair standards. This includes monitoring, auditing and Certification of health, hygiene and fair trade. He is involved in the implementation of many sustainability and skill development projects by GIZ in India, Srilanka and Indonesia.
